Narrow Victory Over Dublin City
Dublin City 1
Bohemians 2
(Ward 8, Ferguson 33)
Bohs started well and created chances against a dire Dublin City side.
Stephen Ward opened the scoring after just eight minutes after Tony
Grant missed a one-on-one chance. Both sides saw chances rebound off the
woodwork, before Barry Ferguson headed home a Des Byrne free-kick on 33
minutes.
However, Bohs dodgy
defence ensured a comfortable victory was out of the question as Freeman
put City back in the game just before the hour mark. City then had
Crowley sent off for a late tackle. Despite the numerical advantage,
Bohs were uneasy and likely to concede a second. That wasn't to be
though, and City eased the nerves when McDonnell also saw red in the
final minute.
It's nice to get three
points, but Bohs inadequacies are still there to be seen. Conor Powell
came on for the injured Des Byrne, and proved that he must start for
Bohs. Farrelly was again ineffective and disinterested in midfield, at
best flattering to deceive, with long passes, but failing to get stuck
in, show leadership. Mark Duggan, if fit, really should be given a
chance to add some drive and passion lacking in gaffer.
That said, the first half
was a big improvement, and buys Farrelly more time in the hot-seat.
