Silence Of the Lambs?
Dear Fellow Bohemians,
It was a considerable relief to me when TheBohs.com contacted me to let
me know that my little piece,
Grounds for
Complaint could go back on the site. I was shocked
and saddened when I heard of the pressure that was brought to bear on
the Webmaster to have it removed. I can undoubtedly be strident in how I
frame my opinions but that is all they are - my opinions - and I was fully
confident that while strong in tone and emphasis "Grounds for Complaint"
(which was quite clearly an opinion piece) represented fair comment. I
gather that the advice the Webmaster has since received fully vindicates
that opinion.
It is a pity, although somewhat emblematic, that our board seem to
devote all their energy, initiative and reserves of "pro-activity " to
stamping out the rich tapestry of opinion among those concerned for the
future of the club. It seems the only time the board are heard from
these days is when there is some opinion or other out there which they
wish to stifle. Meanwhile rivals like Shamrock Rovers are getting busy
announcing all sorts of public and community initiatives, in other
words, getting on with the business of growing and improving their CLUB.
If anyone has any interest in wading through "Grounds for Complaint" it
is back. Whether of not was worthy of all the fuss and nonsense I very
much doubt. It is still though an accurate representation on how I feel
about Bohemian FC at this time. Yes, were I starting it again there are
some things I would change. I would not attempt to unfairly stereotype
some of our newer members and fans in the particular way I did. I am
gladdened and heartened by the way some of these people have responded
to the threat facing our club and our ground and our future. I have, to
a large extent, been proven wrong and I am delighted to be found in
error.
I am confident, but not overly so, that the members of Bohemian FC.
will next week demonstrate that they are not interested in a quick fix
remedy to the mess our club has been managed into and will instead opt
for long term growth opportunity. Quick fixes are what has led the good
ship Bohemian onto the rocks so it is going to take a different type of
thinking to get us back to safer waters. It may be the 11th hour but I
think the tide is turning in favour of doing what is right for Bohemian
FC long term and not what is convenient for Shelbourne, Our Board, or
John Delaney and the FAI.
Thanks very much,
Dr Infallible
